Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 7:15-29 and Luke 6:43-49. Jesus tells us to beware of false prophets that hide as sheep when they are really wolves. He tells that just as we can tell a good tree by the fruit it produces, so we too can identify a person by their actions. Luke adds that the fruit comes from the treasury of our hearts. For what we say flows from what is in our hearts. Then Jesus tells us that not everyone that calls out to Him will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who actually hear what He says, and obeys. They follow through with their actions. Those who listen to Him and follow are like a house built on a rock foundation. When the storms of life come, it stands strong. But those who do not listen and obey Him, their foundation is built on sand that will be swept away with the storms.
The more we get into God's Word, listen to what He tells us, and follow through in obedience, the stronger our foundations get. It is a gradual building, just as we have to go through a process in building a house, it is a gradual process of growing with the Lord. When we grow with Him, He makes us stronger and stronger, so that no matter what this world throws at us, we will remain strong with Him. And people will know that we are followers of Him by our actions. As we walk with Him, He also changes every aspect of our lives, from the way we think, speak, and the different things we do. The more we spend time with God and His Word, the more He flows out of us. His life flows into us with every Word we read of His, with every prayer we say. It flows into us, and overflows in us, so much that it pours out of us to those around us. That is how God wants to work in everyone of our lives. It pours into all of our actions, and people can see it.
Is your foundation built on God? One way for us to know is by how we act when bad things happen to us. If something bad happens, and we respond with negativity or lash out in anger, our foundation is not in a good place. God wants to help build your foundation. When we are standing in Him, when those bad things happen, we can have peace, patience, calmness, all those things that only come from Him. God is the one that gives us everything that we need. He is the one that gives us the strength that we need every single day. So when bad things happen, and they will, we know that we can turn to God for help. Build your foundation on God, and allow Him to do in you what only He can.
