Good afternoon! Today I am in Matthew 16:5-12 and Mark 8:14-21. After Jesus and the disciples crossed the lake, the disciples noticed they only had one loaf of bread with them. Jesus tells them, "Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees (Matthew 16:6)." Mark says Herod instead of Sadducees. The disciples began arguing about not having any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying and asked them why they were arguing about bread, and if they had forgotten about how He fed the crowds on two different occasions. Asking them if they still did not understand, and if their hearts were too hard to understand. Then they understood that He wasn't talking about bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Jesus was trying to get them to understand that the wrong teachings of the Pharisees were like yeast. Only a little bit of yeast affects a whole batch of dough. Evil teachings spread just like yeast. Spreading quickly and affecting a lot of people, causing people to go astray or rise up against Jesus. Evil teachings do the same to us today. Many preachers and teachers claim to follow God, but do not follow God directions, just like the Pharisees and Sadducees of Jesus' time. Jesus is giving us the same warning. Listening to the wrong teachings will cause us to go astray and fall into the traps of the enemy. We must get into God's Word, meditate on it, study it, so we will be able to see when someone is telling us something wrong.
Who are you listening to? Today, there are so many different platforms that people use, and claim to speak about God, but they are leading many people astray. Whenever we listen to someone, we must put what they are saying up against God's Word so we can make sure we are not following the wrong people. But the only way you are going to know is by knowing God's Word for yourself. Checking it for yourself. God wants you to come to Him with your questions. Allow Him to guide you today.
