Demanding Signs

Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 16:1-4 and Mark 8:11-13. Jesus and the disciples arrive back on the other side of the lake in the region of Magadan. When they got there some Pharisees and Sadducees, came to Him demanding that He show them a miraculous signs from heaven to prove His authority. Jesus told them that they knew how to tell the signs of bad weather coming, but they did not know how to interpret the signs of the times. And that only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign. He tells them that the only sign He will give them is the sign of Jonah the prophet. Then He got back into the boat and left.

Jesus knew the hearts of these Pharisees and Sadducees. He knew there was no sign that He could show them that would make them believe. They had already made up their minds about Him. Even after all the miracles He had done, they still would not believe.

Like the Pharisees, the Lord has given us sign after sign that He exists, and tons of proof that show us that Jesus was who the Bible tells us. We don't have to see Jesus, we have all the proof we need. Researchers today, are still finding proof of everything God tells us in the Bible. It was all real. God is not a magician that will just come in and do whatever you want Him to.

Are you demanding a sign from God? We can't demand anything from God. God works on His own time frame and in His own will. And He knows all of our hearts, just like Jesus knew the Pharisees' hearts. He knows what signs we each need, and when. So don't expect God to be moved by demands. Instead, seek Him with a sincere heart. If you truly want to see signs from God, all you have to do is truly seek Him, and ask Him to soften your heart and open your eyes. He will. The more time you spend with Him in prayer and in His Word, the more He will show you. He will show you how real He is. He wants to. Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be open to you (Matthew 7:8).
