Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 12:38-45 and Luke 11:24-32. Matthew tells us here about the Pharisees and religious leaders asking Jesus for more miraculous signs. Instead, Jesus tells them that the only sign He was going to give them was the sign of the prophet Jonah. Just as Jonah was in the belly of a whale for 3 days and 3 nights, He too would be in the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights. Then He tells them that the people of Nineveh and the Queen of Sheba would stand up against them on judgment day, for when they were preached to about God, they repented of their sins, but the people Jesus was was around refused to listen and repent, and they had the Messiah right in front of them, showing them even more signs than the people of Nineveh and the Queen of Sheba had. Then Jesus goes on to tell them that when an evil spirit leaves a body, it goes into the desert seeking a place to rest but finds none, so it goes back to the person from which it came, and finds its home empty, swept, and in order. The spirit then goes and gets 7 other spirits even worse than it, and they all enter the person, making the person even worse off than before. He tells them that would be the experience of His generation. Luke tells us that a woman in the crowd called out to Jesus telling Him blessed is His mother. Jesus responded to her saying that even more blessed are the people who hear the Word of God and put it into practice.
Jesus has given us plenty of signs to show us who He is and why He came. We have even more evidence than the people around Him at that time, for now He has already resurrected from the grave, and sent us His Holy Spirit to dwell within us. Just like the Pharisees and religious leaders then, we are given the same warning. It is up to each one of us to believe. We cannot rely on our blood lines like the Pharisees and religious leaders were. We must believe what Jesus tells us for ourselves. And when we believe in who He is and receive Him, we must be obedient and stay in His Word. Filling our minds with God's Word, so no evil can come in again. When we repent and Jesus saves us, He cleanses us of whatever evil is in there, but we have to be diligent in filling that space back up with Him and Him alone.
Have you filled your mind with God's Word? Filling our minds with God's Word helps us not fall back into the same traps that we fell into before. These traps open the doors for the enemy to come back into our lives. These traps are sins that we fall into. No matter what that sin is, when you repent of it and turn from it, we must keep our focus on God so that sin will not enter our lives again. This is how we guard our minds and hearts from the enemy. With God's Word. If you are still stumbling in a sin that you want to get rid of in your life, ask God to forgive you and cleanse you, then turn from that sin and into God's Word. And get rid of anything in your life that could cause you to stumble back into it. That could be anything, even people. If your mind begins to think about those past sins, pray and ask God to cleanse your mind of whatever it is. This is something you may have to do daily or however often you need to. Fill your mind with prayer and His Word constantly so you will be ready whenever the enemy throws a temptation at you.
