Hidden Treasure

Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 13:44-46. Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man found hidden in a field. When he found it, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to buy the field. Then Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven is also like a merchant that was on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he had to buy it.

Through these parables, Jesus is telling us that the Kingdom of Heaven is more valuable than anything that we have, but yet it is free. Just like the treasure that was found was free, but the man had to give up something in order to obtain the field it was in. Heaven is a free gift offered to us by God, but we must give up our old lifestyles, our old sins, to receive it. Everything in this world will pass away, but the Kingdom of Heaven is eternal. He tells us that if we hold on to this life we will lose it (John 12:25). We may not have to sell everything in this life like the man that found the treasure and the merchant, but we cannot hold on to the things of this world. We must seek God first, and allow Him to guide us.

Have you received the treasure of the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus offers you? That offer is for everyone of us, but we must give up the things that hold us back. God wants us to choose Him above all else. When we make that choice, He will help us resist whatever the enemy tries to use to pull us away from Him. Allow Him to help you.
