Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 23:37-39 and Luke 13:31-35. After Jesus explains to the people that He is the only way to enter God's Kingdom, some Pharisees told Him to get away from there if He wanted to live because Herod wanted to kill Him. But Jesus told them, "Go tell that fox that I will keep on casting out demons and healing people today and tomorrow; and the third day I will accomplish my purpose. (Luke 13:32)". He tells them He must proceed on His way and that it wouldn't do for a prophet of God to be killed except in Jerusalem. He calls Jerusalem the city that kills its prophets and stones God's messengers. He tells them that He has wanted to gather them as a hen protects her chicks, but they wouldn't let Him. And now their house will be abandoned again, and they will never see Him again until they say, "Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! (Luke 13:35)".
The threat of the Pharisees did not deter Jesus. He knew what His mission was, His purpose, and where He was to go. He told them that He would continue on His way no matter what. He grieved for Jerusalem because He knew they would not accept Him, just like they didn't believe the other prophets that God had sent to them. He still loved His people in Jerusalem. He wanted them to come to Him and be a part of His Kingdom. He wanted to save them, protect them, but they would not have Him.
Jesus gives us that same offer today. The offer of love and protection, just like a hen protects her chicks. He doesn't want us to live a life that is stuck and chained by sin. But to live a life of abundance. A life that is only found in Him. He came to save us, not just the people of Jerusalem, but people from all over the world. Many times we reject God's help because we don't think He can give us what we need, but God knows our needs better than we do. We can turn to Him and He will help us and comfort us like no one else can. He is continually giving us a chance to turn to Him, but we must accept Him. He wants to help you today. Give Him a chance. He will help you if you seek Him.
