Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 11:20-30. After Jesus talked about John the Baptist, He started telling the people that sorrow awaits Korazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, for He did many miracles in those town, but the people still would not listen to Him, repent of their sins, and turn to God. For if He had done the same miracles in Tyre, Sidon, and Sodom, ancient cities that were destroyed by God for their wickedness, those towns would have been saved. That those towns would have been better off than them on judgment day. Than He began praying, and thanking God for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Then He tells us that, "His Father has entrusted everything to Him, and that no one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son, and those whom the Son chooses to reveal Himself." Then He tells all who are weary to come to Him, for He will give them rest. Allowing Him to teach them because He is, "humble and gentle at heart, and they will find rest for their souls. For His yoke is easy to bear, and the burden He gives is light."
Jesus was warning the people in those towns about the coming judgment they would face if they did not believe in Him. Tyre, Sidon, and Sodom never saw Jesus, but the people of Bethsaida, Korazin, and Capernaum saw Jesus and witnessed Him do several miracles, but they still refused to believe. He gives us the same warning today. We may not have Jesus in the flesh with us, but we have His Word that He gave us as evidence of Him. And He also gave us the Holy Spirit to dwell within us to guide us. We can read His Word, and look back at history and see everything that God has done for His people. We have more evidence today than what they did back then, for the people right there with Jesus at that time, had not yet seen Jesus' death and resurrection. He has given us plenty of evidence to prove who He is. He does tell us though in verse 25, that the people who think themselves wise and clever, will not understand, but for all who humble themselves and truly seek God, God is revealing Himself to them. And then He offers us rest for our souls. We don't have to carry the burdens that this world puts on us by ourselves. If we repent and turn to Him, He will help us. He will give us the strength to do what He has called us to. And what He calls us to is not heavy it is light, and we don't have to worry because He is with us.
Are you weighed down by the burdens that this world has put on you? This life throws so much at us every single day that it is easy to get overwhelmed. The enemy wants to do that to us so we are distracted and feel like we don't have time for God. But Jesus tells us, that if we truly seek Him with our whole heart, He will help us. He will take some of that burden off of us. The more we seek Him, the more the Father reveals Himself to us, walking with us daily. God is so amazing. It is amazing to think that the Creator of the Universe wants us to spend that kind of time with Him. Remember that the God of the Universe can help you, there is nothing bigger than Him, nothing that He can't handle. Seek Him when you are feeling overwhelmed today, and allow Him to give you rest.
