Judging

Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 7:1-6 and Luke 6:37-42. Jesus tells us not to judge, and we will not be judged. We will be treated the same way we treat others. Whatever we do to others will be done back to us, whether good or bad. If we give, we will receive even more than what we gave. For the amount we give will determine the amount we get back. Then Jesus tells us that a blind man cannot lead another blind man because they would both fall in a ditch. And He tells us that students are not greater than their teachers, but a fully trained student will become like the teacher. Then He tells us before we can help remove the speck in a friends eye, we must first remove the speck in our own eye, then we will be able to see well enough to help the friend. And the last thing He tells us here is to not waste what is holy on people who are unholy.

God does not want us judging others. Instead He wants us to show love and kindness, building people up and helping them, not tearing them down. Usually, if we are judging and criticizing others, there is something in us that we don't like and want to change. That's why Jesus tells us to first get the log out of our own eye. Because we can't help someone get past a problem when we ourselves are struggling with it (just like a blind man can't lead a blind man). Once we have fixed that bad habit or whatever in us, then we can help other people get past those same problems. Teaching them how to overcome just as we were able to overcome. When He tells us not to waste what is holy on people who are unholy, He is not telling us to stop sharing His Word with unbelievers, but to be wise and discerning in our witnessing. If we are witnessing to someone who doesn't want to listen and tears apart everything we say, we are wasting our time. Not giving up on witnessing for God, just moving on to someone else who wants to hear.

Do you find yourself criticizing certain habits in people? If you do, do like Jesus said, and examine yourself to see if that same habit is in you. And if it is, start changing that area in your life, and once you do you can help others in that same area. We all judge others in the beginning. I believe the world we live in teaches us to be judgmental because everyone is trying to be better than someone else. But once we start getting to know God and spending time with Him, He starts changing that mindset in us. We start viewing people different. So don't be discouraged. We all have to learn how not to be judgmental. And God is the one that teaches us how to do that.
