Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 12:22-37, Mark 3:20-30, and Luke 11:14-23. Matthew and Luke tells us that Jesus healed a demon possessed man that was blind and couldn't speak, and when He did, the crowds were amazed. Luke tells us that the crowd began demanding Jesus show them more miraculous signs from heaven to prove His authority. Mark does not record this little bit here, but tells us that Jesus and His disciples went into a house, but the crowd was growing and they did not have time to sit down to eat. So the disciples tried to take Him away. All three gospels then tell us that some of the Pharisees that were in the crowd began saying that Jesus got His power from Satan, as for the reason why He could cast out demons. Jesus knew their thoughts and asked them if a kingdom divided could stand? He tells them no, that it would fall apart, so Satan would not fight against himself. Then He asked them about their own priests that performed exorcisms, wouldn't they too would be condemned by what they said. He goes on to tell them that He is casting out demons by the Spirit of God, so the Kingdom of God was among them. He tells them that anyone who isn't with Him opposes Him, and anyone who isn't working with Him is working against Him. And the only sin that would not be forgiven by God is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Matthew adds that Jesus tells the crowd that a tree can be identified by the fruit it produces. Just as we will be identified by the words that come out of our mouths. For what comes out of our mouth comes from the heart, whether good or evil. And we will give an account on judgment day for every idle word we speak.
Jesus was steadily healing the sick and casting out demons, but the Pharisees still would not believe them. So Jesus explained to them even more by telling them that Satan would not be fighting against himself, warning them about the blasphemies they were speaking. Telling us that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the sin worst of all, that would not be forgiven. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is so bad because it is attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to the devil. Revealing a heart attitude of unbelief and unrepentance. This is a deliberate, ongoing rejection of the Holy Spirit, rejecting God Himself. If we reject God, then we are fighting against Him, and standing with the enemy. And people will know which side we are on by what we say.
Where do you stand with Jesus? As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to be pointing people to Jesus in what we say and our actions. If what we are saying and doing are not pointing people to God, then we are leading them astray. Leading them to the ways of the enemy. There is no neutral ground with God. You either believe in Him or you don't. You are either obeying Him with your actions or you are following the enemy. If you are doing things that God tells you not to do, you are following the enemy, whether you claim to be a Christian or not. We must examine ourselves, to make sure we are not pointing people in the wrong direction. If we claim to be Christians, we must allow God to change our hearts. We do this by getting into His Word, and asking Him to to help us. Ask Him to help you be obedient to Him. He will help you.
