Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 13:53-58, Mark 6:1-6, and Luke 4:16-30. Here Jesus goes back to His hometown of Nazareth. While there, He went to the synagogue there and taught. He taught out of the scroll of Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1-2) that said of how the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him, for God had anointed Him to bring the Good News. Sending Him to proclaim that captives and the oppressed would be set free, released from captivity. That the time of the Lord's favor had come. He rolled up the scroll and handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. Everyone was looking at Him. Then He told them that the Scripture He had just read, had been fulfilled that very day. Everyone was amazed by His wisdom and power, but did not see how that could be because they knew Him and where He came from. Then He told them that no prophet is accepted in his own hometown. Then He added that in Elijah's time, there were many widows in Israel, but instead he was sent to a widow in the land of Sidon. And there were many lepers in Israel, but Elijah was sent to a Syrian leper. When the people heard this, they mobbed Him, and forced Him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built, intending to push Him over, but He passed through the crowd and went His way.
Many times when Jesus calls us and changes our lives, those closest to us do not believe, for they saw us in our worst times. Jesus did many amazing miracles, but in His hometown His was rejected. He could not do many miracles there because of all the people's unbelief. When this happens to you, don't be discouraged, but keep praying and leaning into God, and what He has called you to. Don't allow people's unbelief to stop you from the work that God has called you to.
Have you ever felt rejected by your family and friends because of your beliefs? Jesus warned us in Luke 12:51-53, that He come to cause division. Separating the believers from the unbelievers, even in our own families. So don't be discouraged and give up. God has got you, and He will get you through. Sometimes that separation is necessary because those people can hold you back from the calling that God has for you. Don't be afraid of the division, God has got everything under control. Keep walking with Him, and praying, especially praying for those who don't believe. He will help you, and give you the strength to keep going.
