Remain in Jesus

4:15 am

Good morning! Today I am in John 6:41-59. The people began disagreeing about what Jesus said about being the true bread from heaven. Asking how could this be when they knew His mom and dad? Jesus told them to stop complaining about what He said because no one comes to Him unless the Father draws them to Him. Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him, come to Him. But no one has ever seen the Father except for the one He sent. He goes on to tell them that anyone that believes in Him has eternal life and that yes He is the bread of life. He is the bread that came down from heaven, and everyone who eats this bread will have eternal life. And this bread is His flesh. The people began arguing again, saying, "How can this man give us His bread to eat?" Jesus keeps going on, saying that unless they eat His flesh and drink His blood they cannot have eternal life. Anyone who eats His flesh and drinks His blood, remain in Him, and He in them. He lives because of the living Father that sent Him, and in the same way anyone who feeds on Him will live because of Him.

This was hard for the religious leaders to accept. The way Jesus was talking sounded like cannibalism, which was not tolerated. Not only that, but they knew His family and where He physically came from, so how can He be from heaven. But Jesus was talking about accepting Him, believing in who He was and why He came, and where He came from, heaven, and learning from His teachings. Because like He said, He was sent from God for us, so we could have eternal life through Him. And none of us go to Him without the urging of God. He is the one that calls us to Him. When we remain in Jesus by studying His Word that He gave us, we are feeding on Jesus. Taking in His Word that is alive and breathing. His Word that gives us life. He is the only one that can satisfy our spiritual hunger.

Are you spending time in God's Word everyday? Getting into God's Word and talking to Him helps satisfy any spiritual need that we may have. Before we come to God, we try to fill that need with the things and cares of this world. But just like the Israelites fed on the manna that God sent, that only satisfied their temporal hunger, bread that they had to gather daily and they still died. The things of this world only satisfy that temporal hunger, and they cause death. But Jesus offers us Himself. He will satisfy our deepest needs, and will do so for eternity, not just temporarily. Remain in Him daily, and allow Him to satisfy your spiritual hunger and thirst, He is the only one that can.
