Small Beginnings

Good morning! I can't believe its February already. It seems like January flew by. Since it is February now, how have your goals for the year or New Years resolutions gone? I don't do New Years resolutions, but I do set goals I would like to accomplish. I look back on the previous year and reflect on what I thought went well and what didn't go so well, and go from there. Asking God to guide me in the New Year. For me, I am still doing pretty good on the things I would like to accomplish, but with the big snow storm, that kind of made me lazy, and I have slacked off. But I have really enjoyed the down time. At the beginning of each month I reflect on the previous month, the same way I do at the beginning of the year. Just to see if I am on track, or if I have gotten off, resetting if so. Its okay if you have to do a reset to get back on track. Life happens and we can't plan for everything, so sometimes a reset is much needed. Lets see what God has for us today.

Today I am in Matthew 13:31-33, Mark 4:30-32, and Luke 13:18-21. Jesus is still explaining the Kingdom of Heaven to the crowd around Him. He tells them the Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed that a farmer plants in the field. It is the smallest of seeds, but it becomes the largest in the garden. It grows into a tree and birds come and make nests in its branches. Matthew and Luke then tells us that Jesus gives another example of the Kingdom of Heaven. That it is like yeast that is added to flour, to make bread. Only a little is added, but it permeates all of the dough.

Jesus is telling us that His Kingdom starts small (like a mustard seed), but grows big, producing great results. God's Word starts like a seed in our hearts. We may not notice it at first, but then it grows, just like yeast, permeating every area of our lives. The more we spend time with Him in His Word, the more that seed grows. And the more results it produces in our lives. Those results affect all the people we come in contact with. Spreading that seed to the people around us. Growing God's Kingdom, more and more. We can look at the world today, and see how God's Word has changed the world, spreading world-wide. Giving all who believe a place in God's Kingdom, just like the birds are able to make a home in the mustard tree that grew from the seed.

Have you allowed God's Word to permeate every area of your life? Just like a seed has to be watered so it will grow, we must spend time with God, in His Word and praying, so that the seed in our hearts is watered. That is how it grows in our lives. Just like Jesus told us, His Word starts small in our lives. And if we want it to continue to grow, we need to make sure we are tending to it. Being obedient to the things that God has called us to. Don't be discouraged if you don't see the fruit of God's Word in your life right away, keep walking with Him. Allowing Him to tend to your life.
