Stand Up for what is Right

Good afternoon! I didn't forget to hop on here earlier, I just didn't give myself time this morning to get on here. Today has been a busy day so far, and its not over. I feel like I have been running around everywhere. But I have a few minutes to get on here. This afternoon I am in Matthew 14:3-12 and Mark 6:17-29. Herod has arrested John the Baptist and put him in prison. John had been telling Herod that it was against God's law for him to marry his brother's wife Herodias. This made Herodias extremely mad and she wanted to kill him, but she did not have the power to kill him unless Herod agreed to it. Mark tells us that Herod respected John. Herod thought John was a good and holy man so he protected him. When Herod's birthday came around, he threw a birthday party, and Herodias's daughter performed a dance for Herod that greatly pleased him. He vowed to her that he would give her anything she wanted, up to half of his kingdom. She asked her mom what she should ask for and her mom told her the head of John the Baptist on a tray. So she asked the king for John's head on a tray. He regretted immediately making the vow, but because it was in front of several people, he kept his vow and had John killed and his head brought to her, and she gave it to her mother. When John's disciples heard what had happened, they went and got his body and buried it, then went and told Jesus what had happened.

John the Baptist was killed because he spoke up for what was right. He was not afraid of what Herod or anyone else would do to him. He stood firm in God's Word, making a stand for God. As followers of Jesus, we too are to stand up for God's Word and what is right in God's eyes, no matter how many people it offends. We must not be scared to speak up for God. God can and will give us the courage and boldness to stand up for Him.

Are you standing up for God's Word? It can be scary to. There are still many places today where Christians are being persecuted for their faith, but we cannot let that scare us. Many people don't want to believe in God, or believe that there are consequences for sin. They want to live their lives without worrying about a God that will judge everyone, so they will get angry when we speak the truth. But don't be afraid. Keep walking in the light, walking in God's truth, and allow Him to give you the encouragement and boldness to speak to others about Him. That is what we are called to do. Because our hope and peace does not come from this world, it comes from God. Trust that He will be with you every step of the way.
