The Golden Rule

Good evening! Today I am in Matthew 7:12. Here Jesus tells us the Golden Rule. Jesus tells us to, do to others as we would like them to do us. He tells us that this is the very essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Short but good. This verse is so important that it is quoted by almost everyone, even nonbelievers. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, and start spending time with Him, this rule becomes easier to follow. It is not easy to treat people well, especially if they have hurt us in some way. But Jesus wants us to show His love to everyone. Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:37-39, that the most important command for us to follow is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and the second most important is to love our neighbor as ourselves. As we spend more time with God, the more He changes our heart. And He starts helping us understand the importance of treating others well, because when we treat others well, we are showing the love of Jesus to them.

Do you treat others as you wish to be treated? This is a very hard examination of ourselves. Reflecting on our attitudes and our thought process when something bad happens to us. Like Jesus tells us in Luke 6:33, that even sinners do good to those who do good to them. But the difference for us is that God wants us to do good to others especially when they are not good to us. This is something we must do daily, but our flesh does not want to. This is a daily wrestling with the flesh. But we can do this with God's help. No matter how people treat us, we must choose to do good. We must choose to treat them the way we want to be treated, because that is what God does for us. He shows us mercy and grace everyday. He doesn't treat us the way we deserve, He chooses to love us and show us mercy, even when we don't deserve it. So treating others how we want to be treated, is an extension of the love that God shows us daily. Walk in that love today.
