Treasure

Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 6:19-24. Jesus tells us not to store our treasure here on earth where moths and rust destroys it, or thieves steal it. Instead for us to store our treasures in heaven. For wherever our treasure is, is where the desires of our hearts are. Then He tells us that our eyes are lamps because they provide light to our bodies. And if our eyes are good, then our whole body is filled with light, but if our eyes are bad, then our body will be filled with darkness. Then He tells us that no one can serve two masters because you will be devoted to one and despise the other. We cannot serve both God and money.

When we take our focus off God and start focusing on what the world says is best, we are allowing the enemy to deceive us. The enemy wants us to think that fame, fortune, power, authority, etc.... are what we need to be working toward. But Jesus tells us otherwise. He tells us that all the things of the world are not what we are supposed to be focused on because all these things can be taken away or lost at a drop of a hat. They will not last forever. But when we focus on God, and serving Him, He provides all the things we need, plus it builds up a treasure for us in heaven. Whatever that focus is, our eyes will be drawn to it. Causing us to either walk in the light (the ways of God) or walking in darkness (the ways of the enemy). So we must be careful what we spend our time focusing on.

Where is your treasure? Do you seek this world to fulfill you, or do you allow God to fill you? You can examine this in yourself by evaluating what you think about the most, where you spend most of your time, or where do you spend most of your energy. If you notice that you spend more time, attention, or energy on things other than God, then you have placed your focus on earthly things and off God. He can redirect your focus, if you want Him to. Unfortunately, when we focus more on the things of this world than on God, we will begin to worry and stress more. We will wear ourselves out and never feel satisfied or content. But when we focus on God, He gives us all those things. For all those things come from spending time with Him and doing things we know God wants us to do. Allow God to give you what you need today.
