Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 5:38-42. Jesus tells us that instead of an eye for an eye, to turn the other cheek. To not seek revenge when someone harms us, but to try to help them. To give to those who ask and don't turn away from those who want to borrow. Unfortunately, our first response when someone hurts us usually is that we want to get them back for what they have done to us. But God does not want us to do that. He wants us to love and forgive anyone who harms us. Just like God loves and forgives us when we do something wrong. This is not an easy thing to do, but God is the one that gives us the strength to do this. When we realize how much that He has forgiven us for, it makes it easier for us to forgive others. Many times when someone hurts us, it is because they are hurting, and they are lashing out in an angry, violent way. When we take the time to talk to them, without being angry ourselves, we will see where maybe we can help them. So instead of retaliating in anger, pray for that person, because you never know what they are going through.
Is there someone that has hurt you that you would like to get revenge on? We have all been hurt by someone in the past that we may not feel like we can forgive. But when we turn the other cheek and forgive them, God starts healing our hearts. That healing touches every part of our lives. If you feel like that, ask God to help you. He can heal that wound that was created in your heart. He can help you get past any hurt, and give you the strength to move forward.
