Good morning! Today I am in John 11:45-57. When Lazarus was let go, many of the people that were with Mary believed, but there were some that went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. The leading priests and Pharisees called a meeting with the high council, and asked each other what they were going to do. They knew Jesus had performed many miracles, but if they were to allow Him to continue, soon everyone would believe in Him, and the Roman army would come and destroy both the Temple and the nation. Caiaphas, the high priest at the time, told them that it was better for one man to be killed instead of a whole nation being destroyed. John adds that Caiaphas did not say this on his own because he was high priest, but instead it was a prophesy that Jesus would die for the entire nation, also to bring together and unite all the children of God scattered around the world. From that time on, they began plotting Jesus' murder. As a result, Jesus stopped His public ministry, and left Jerusalem, going to a place near the wilderness. And He stayed there with His disciples. It was almost time for the Passover Celebration, and many people were arriving in Jerusalem, early so they could go through the Ceremonial cleansing before the Passover. As the people stood around the Temple, many were looking for Jesus and wondering if He would show up because the religious leaders had put an order out to the public that if anyone saw Jesus it was to be reported to them, so He could be arrested.
Many believed in Jesus after raising Lazarus from the dead, but there were still a few that didn't, and they reported Jesus. Even though the evidence was right in front of them, their hearts were so hard, that they reported Him to the leading religious leaders that did not like Him and what He was doing. This was one of the biggest miracles that Jesus did, and they still would not believe in who Jesus was. With the evidence they had, they helped in the plot to kill Jesus. And without even realizing it, the high priest that was plotting to kill Jesus, had prophesied about why Jesus was dying, for the sins of all people, everywhere, so we will not die in our sins, but be saved. He died for everyone. One man for everyone.
So what are you doing with the evidence that God has given you? Are you believing the evidence, or are you rejecting it, thinking it is too hard to believe? The evidence is definitely hard to believe, but if you choose to believe, God will start softening your heart and drawing you closer to Him. There is so much evidence that points to the Bible being true, but we have to want to believe. You can either believe the evidence or reject it. Believe Jesus or reject Him. Believe Him and choose the life that only He can give or reject Him and choose death. That is the only two options and it is yours to make. Choose life. Choose Jesus, and He will give you are new life. He died for everyone of us.
