Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

Good afternoon! Today I am in Matthew 16:13-20, Mark 8:27-30, and Luke 9:18-21. Jesus and the disciples come into the region of Caesarea Philippi, Luke tells us that Jesus went to pray alone, but the disciples were with Him. Jesus turns to the disciples and asks them who the people thought He was. They told Him that the people said He was John the Baptist, some said Elijah, and others thought He was some other prophet raised from the dead. Then He asked them who they thought He was. Simon Peter answered saying, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Matthew tells us that Jesus told Peter that he was blessed because His Father in heaven had revealed that to him. That he did not learn that from any human. Then He calls Simon, Peter meaning rock, and on this rock He would build His church, and all the powers of hell would not conquer it. He goes on to tell Peter that He would give him the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever he forbid on earth would be forbidden in heaven, and whatever he permits on earth will be permitted in heaven. Then He tells all of the disciples not to tell anyone who He was.

Jesus asks us this same question today, "Who do you say I am?". This is a question we all have to answer for ourselves. This answer will choose what happens to us after death. It also guides our thoughts and hearts while we are alive here on earth. I love that He told Peter that His Father in heaven revealed this to him. God is the one that calls each of us, He is also the one that reveals this to us. He reveals Himself to us. The more time we spend with Him the more He shows us about who He is and why we are here. But we still have to answer the question for ourselves. When we choose to follow Him and trust Him, He also gives us the keys to heaven. He opens the door for us and gives us the opportunity to help others find the way inside as well. Leading others to Him. To all who believe in Christ and obey His Words, the Kingdom doors are open. He is just waiting on us to make the choice. Then He gives us power, by His Holy Spirit that He sends to us when we receive Him as our Lord and Savior, so we can help others that are struggling around us. Just like He did while He was here on earth. Because that same Holy Spirit lives within every believer of Jesus Christ. The doors are open for you, and the Lord is waiting with open arms.
