Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 12:1-8, Mark 2:23-28, and Luke 6:1-5. Jesus knew what the Pharisees and religious leaders were plotting, so He left the area, heading to the lake, and many people followed Him. The crowd was so vast that He told some of His disciples to have a boat ready so the crowd would not crush Him. The people came from all over to be healed because news of the miraculous healing spread everywhere. Everyone tried to touch Him because healing power went out from Him. He healed all the sick among the crowd and those troubled by evil spirits. He told all those He healed to not reveal who He was. Mark tells us that the evil spirits in people would recognize Jesus, and they would throw the person they were possessing down at Jesus' feet shrieking, "You are the Son of God! (Mark 3:11)", but Jesus would sternly tell the evil spirits not to reveal who He was.
Many people came to see Jesus because of the news spreading of everything He was doing. They came out expecting healing and miraculous signs. But Jesus warned those He healed not to tell anyone who He was, because even more would come expecting these things and not coming because of who He truly was and what He had come for. He still had lots to teach His disciples and the people about what His true purpose was and the plan that God had, and the large crowds of people expecting signs and miracles would hinder His ability to teach them the truth. Today, many people still come to Jesus for miracles, thinking He is a magician that will do whatever they want. But Jesus was and is more concerned about where our hearts are. When we go to Jesus just to help when we need it, not seeking a relationship with Him, we are being just like these crowds that came to Jesus. Expecting God to fix situations or perform some type of miracle, without trying to build a relationship.
Why do you follow Jesus? Do you only follow Him so He will do whatever you want, or do you follow Him because you want Him to be Lord over your life? God wants to be more than just a quick fix in your life, He wants a personal relationship with you. He wants to be a part of every area of your life. Seek Him for who He truly is, and allow Him to be at the center of your life.
