A Faithful Witness

Good morning! Today I am in John 12:37-43. After Jesus explained why He had to die, many of the people still did not believe Him, even after all the miracles they had seen. This lined up with what the prophet Isaiah had spoken in Isaiah 53:1, that said, "Lord, who has believed our messages? To whom has the Lord revealed His powerful arm?". But the people could not believe Him. Isaiah had also wrote, "The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts - so that their eyes can not see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them (Isaiah 6:10)." John tells us that Isaiah was referring to Jesus because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah's glory. But there were many that did believe Him, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn't admit it for fear of the Pharisees expelling them from the synagogue. For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.

John states that many people couldn't believe because God had blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts. No matter how many miracles they saw Jesus do, they refused to believe or admit publicly that they believed. God does not intentionally prevent people from believing, He only confirms their own choices. After a lifetime of resisting God, they were set in their ways and they wouldn't even try to understand Jesus' message. Many people today do the same thing, they refuse to believe even after all the evidence that show Jesus was who He said He was. And He allows us to stay in that decision, He will not force us to believe Him. But the longer we resist Him, the harder our hearts will get, and the more blind to Him we get, just like the people that were around Jesus at the time.

Then there were the ones that believed but wouldn't openly admit it for fear of losing the positions they had in the community. Many people do this as well. They don't want to admit they believe for fear of losing relationships with people, jobs, or influence. But we must not let the acceptance of others stop us from following Jesus. Because God's eternal acceptance is more important than the acceptance of people.

We must be careful to not allow earthly influences to stop us from following Jesus. He is more important than anything else here on earth. God is the one that created us, and He is the one that blesses us with everything we need. We don't have to worry about anything with Him. He accepts us no matter what, but we must choose to believe Him and follow Him. Ask Him to help you stand up for Him and follow Him. He will give you the strength to do so. We are to be His disciples, His faithful witnesses to the world. Don't be discouraged when those around you don't believe you, keep sharing God's love no matter what happens. We cannot make other people's choices for them, but you can choose for yourself what to do, and His ways are better. Allow Him to lead you today.
