Seeking God's Guidance

Good morning! Today I am in Acts 1:12-26. After Jesus was taken up to heaven, the apostles returned to Jerusalem. The disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and Jesus' brothers met together and were united in prayer. There was about 120 believers together in one place. Peter stood up and said, "Brothers, the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas. This was predicted long ago by the Holy Spirit, speaking through King David. Judas was one of us and shared in the ministry with us." Luke adds here that Judas had bought a field with the money he received for his treachery, and he fell head first and his body split open. And they named the place Field of Blood. Peter goes on saying that it was written in the book of Psalms, "Let his home become desolate, with no one living on it (Psalm 69:25) and let someone else take his position (Psalm 109:8)." So Peter tells them, that they must find a replacement for Judas from among the men who were with them the entire time they were traveling with Jesus. From when Jesus was baptized until He was taken up to heaven. Whoever is chosen would join them as a witness for Jesus' resurrection. They nominated two men. And they all prayed, asking God to show them which of the two men He has chosen. Then they cast lots, and Matthias was chosen.

While the disciples were waiting for the Lord to send the Holy Spirit to them, they went back to Jerusalem as Jesus had instructed them, and prayed together. They didn't just sit around doing nothing while they waited, they did what they could and prayed, seeking God's guidance, and getting organized. They didn't just chose another disciple by themselves, they sought God's guidance. God is the one that can see people's hearts, and He chooses the right person at the right time. Like the disciples, we must seek God for guidance on making the right decisions. If we don't, we run the risk of running ahead of God and taking chances, hoping everything will work out the way it should. But when we seek God first, asking Him to help us make the right decision, we won't stress ourselves out. Instead, we can rest assured that God is right in the middle of every situation. And whatever the situation is, it will work out because God is in control. Allow God to help you in what ever decisions you are having to make today, whether big or small. He wants to be right there with you, helping you every step of the way.
