Allow Jesus to Open Your Mind

Good morning! Today I am in Luke 24:44-49 and Acts 1:4-5. While the disciples were in Jerusalem, and they were eating with Jesus, Jesus tells them that when He was with them before, He told them that everything that was written about Him in the law of Moses and the prophets and Psalms, must be fulfilled. Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He told them that it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. And that it was also written that the message, "There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent ", would be proclaimed in the authority of His name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem, and they are witnesses of these things. He tells them that now He was going to send them the Holy Spirit, just as His Father promised. But He tells them to stay there in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes and fills them with power from heaven. He tells them that John baptized with water, but in just a few days, they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

The disciples did not understand all that was happening. They did not understand what the old Scriptures were saying about the Messiah, until Jesus opened their minds. For me, its reassuring to know that even the disciples didn't understand until Jesus opened there minds. There are many times, getting into the Bible and reading the Scriptures, that I may not understand what I am reading. But right here Jesus tells us that He is the one that reveals the Scriptures to us. So when we get into God's Word, we need to ask Jesus to help us understand.

Just like Jesus told the disciples, He was going to send them the Holy Spirit and that Holy Spirit was going to help guide them and fill them with the power they needed to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, He does the same for us. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and repent of our sins, He forgives us and blesses us by sending His Holy Spirit to dwell within us. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are able to have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father and Jesus. That Holy Spirit helps us understand the Scriptures as we read them, guides us, and fills us with the knowledge and power to share the Good News of salvation with the world around us. So next time you feel like you don't understand what you are reading in the Bible, turn to Jesus to help you understand. Ask Him to open your mind to His Word, and speak to you personally through His Word. He wants to.
