Children of the Light

Tuesday, May 26th, 2026

Good morning! It has been a couple of days since I got on here. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day. We ended up going out of town Saturday afternoon. Not something we had planned, but it was a good couple of days. Got to see my dad, stepmom, and step sister. I don't get to see them very often. They live about 4 hours away, not too bad a drive. But back to work now. It was very nice having a couple of days off. Anyways, on to the Bible Study.

This morning, I am in John 12:20-36. Some Greeks that had come to Jerusalem for the Passover, went to Philip of Bethsaida, and told him that they wanted to meet Jesus.  Philip told Andrew, and they went together to ask Jesus.  Jesus told them that the time had come for the Son of Man to enter into His glory.  He tells them that unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone.  But its death will produce many new kernels - a plentiful harvest of new lives.  He tells them that those who love their lives in this world will lose it.  And those who care nothing of their lives in this world will keep it for eternity.  He tells them that anyone who wants to be His disciple must follow Him because His servants must be where He is.  And the Father will honor anyone who serves Him.  He tells them that His soul is deeply troubled.  He asks if He should pray for His Father to save Him from this hour?  He says no because this is the very reason why He had come, to bring glory to His Father’s name.  Then a voice spoke from heaven saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.”  When the crowd heard this, some thought it was thunder and others thought it was an angel that had spoken to Him.  Jesus told them that the voice was for their benefit, not His.  He tells them that the time has come for the world to be judged, and Satan, the ruler of this world be cast out.  Then He would be lifted up from the earth, and He will draw everyone to Himself. The crowd told Him that they understood from Scripture that the Messiah would live forever, and asked Him why He is saying the Son of Man is going to die, and who is the Son of Man anyway? He tells them that His light will shine for them only a little while longer, and tells them to walk in the light while they could so the darkness would not overtake them. Saying that those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. He tells them to put their trust in the light while there is still time then they will become children of the light. Then Jesus went away, and was hidden from them.

Jesus tells them here again that He was about to die, and why. He would die to conquer the darkness and bring all those who are willing, to Him. He tells them to be children of the light while they could, while they still had time. Walking with Him in the light so they would not be overtaken by darkness. Loving Him, not this world. Giving up this world for Him. Becoming His children, and His servants. Serving Him alone, and not the ruler of this world.

When we are walking with Jesus, walking in His light, He helps us not give in to the ruler of this world. All the enemy wants to do is steal, kill, and destroy us. So he tempts us any way that he can, to distract us and separate us from walking in Jesus' light. Because if the enemy can get us so distracted by the cares of this world, we won't spend time with Jesus, in His Word and prayer. We will try to carry on in our own strength, that only makes us tired and stressed out. But with Jesus, He will give us the strength to take care of all the things the Lord has blessed us with. His death and resurrection made it where we don't have to be a slave to darkness because Jesus defeated death when He rose from the grave. He defeated the enemy. He died to save everyone. To overcome the enemy, we need faithful allegiance to God's Word, determination to stay away from sin, and the support of other believers. Jesus will help us, as long as we stay connected to Him, walking in His light. When we do, we will be able to help other people as well. Pointing them to Christ. Letting His light shine through us. Allowing Him to use us whenever He needs to. Walk in His light today, and He will guide you.
