Distracted

Good morning! Today I am in Luke 10:38-42. Jesus and His disciples continue on to Jerusalem. On their way, they come to a village where a woman named Martha invites Jesus to her home. While Jesus is there, He teaches. Martha's sister Mary sits and listens to what Jesus is teaching, while Martha is distracted by the big dinner she is preparing. She goes to Jesus and asks Him if it seemed fair to Him that her sister just sits there while she is doing all the work? She tells Him to make her help. But Jesus tells Martha that she is worried and upset over all the details, but there is only one thing worth being concerned about, and her sister had found it. And it will not be taken from her.

Martha was worrying and fussing over the dinner she was preparing for Jesus instead of spending time with Jesus. She was the one that invited Jesus to her house, but yet she was so distracted by trying to do her best that she wasn't even spending time with her guest. We get so distracted by the things of this world that we miss Jesus. We get so busy, filling up our schedules so much that we have a hard time fitting Him into our day. But like Jesus told Martha, there is only one thing worth being concerned about. That is making time for Him. Mary had made Jesus a priority, and He wants us to do the same. Make Him a priority, and stop being distracted by things that are worthless.

The enemy wants us to be distracted so we don't think we have the time to fit Jesus into our lives. He throws so much at us that we think we have to be like everyone else, doing the same things other people are doing, striving to be the best. But Jesus doesn't want us to worry about these things. He wants us to focus on Him. When we start making Him the priority in our lives, everything else will fall into place. He is not telling us to neglect our duties, but put Him before everything. When we do, He will be able to start directing our steps, and helping us see the areas that maybe we can let go and stop worrying about. There are many things that we worry about and fuse over that we were never meant to do. Once He shows us those things, we can start setting boundaries and letting things go, taking the stress off of us. Burdens we were never meant to carry. Allow Jesus to lift those heavy burdens from you and help you see what is most important for you in this season.
