Good morning! Today I am in Luke 10:1-16. Luke tells us that the Lord chose 72 other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all of the towns and places He had planned to visit. Jesus told them that the harvest was great but the workers were few, so He told them to pray that the Lord, who is in charge of the harvest, send more workers into the fields. He tells them that He is sending them out as lambs among the wolves. He tells them not to take any money, traveler's bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. He tells them not to stop and greet anyone on the road. Whenever they enter someone's home they are to bless it with God's peace, and if those who live there are peaceful, the blessing would stand, but if they are not, the blessing would return to them. He tells them not to move from home to home, staying in different places, but for them to stay in one home the whole time they are in the town, eating and drinking whatever they provide. He tells them to not hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay. While they are in the town, they are to eat whatever is set before them, and to heal the sick, and tell them that "the Kingdom of God is near them now." If the town refuses to welcome them, they are to go into the street and wipe the dust from their feet to show they abandon the town to their fate. He tells them that even the wicked towns of Sodom, Tyre, and Sidon would be better off on judgment day than the towns that rejected Him. He tells the disciples that anyone who accepts their message is also accepting Him, and anyone who rejects them, rejects Him. And anyone who rejects Him, rejects the Father who sent Him.
Jesus chose the disciples that would go into the towns ahead of Him. When He sent them out He told them not to take anything with them because the Lord would provide all they needed for their mission. He did not choose these disciples based on what they could and couldn't do, the skills and education they had, they were all different. He chose them because they followed Him and believed in what He was doing. When He chose them, He gave them everything they needed, so they did not have to worry about anything (where they would sleep, what they would eat, or anything).
He does the same for us today. He calls everyone of us, no matter what our background is. He calls us and equips us with His Holy Spirit to go out and share the Good News to those around us. Not worrying about anything we may need on the journey. He provides everything we need to do the job He calls us to.
If you feel like God is calling you to do something, whatever that may be, because that looks different for all of us, trust that He will provide what you need for that job. He has blessed us with everything we need in this life. He wants us to look at the things He has already blessed us with, and use those things to bless others. Use what He has already blessed you with. Once you start using what He has already blessed you with to do what He is calling you to, He will bless you with more so you can keep going. We don't have to start out big and fancy, just start small. The small starts turn into big things when you start trusting God. Allow Him to guide you today.
