Good morning! Today I am in Luke 19:41-44. As Jesus and the disciples got closer to Jerusalem, and Jesus could see the city, He began to weep. He says that how He wished that they, of all people, would understand the way to peace, but now it was too late for them. Peace is hidden from their eyes. He says that before long their enemies would build ramparts against their walls and encircle them, and close in on them from all sides. They will crush them to the ground, and their children with them. Their enemies would not leave a single stone in place because they did not accept their opportunity for salvation.
Wow, this is hard to hear. As I read this, I think of how the enemy attacks us today. This statement was about Jerusalem, but the same warning goes out to us today. About 40 years after Jesus says this, His words came true. The Jews revolted against Rome around AD 66, and 3 years later the son of the emperor at the time, was sent to crush the rebellion. About 600,000 Jews were killed during all this. And all this happened because they refused to accept their salvation. They killed their long awaited Messiah, God's One and Only Son, sent to save them, and they were punished.
Jesus gives all of us that same opportunity, to accept Him as our Savior. Accept what He did for us, and give our lives to Him. But eventually, like Jerusalem at this time in the Bible, our time to choose Him will run out. Eventually, He will turn away from us, and allow us to live how we choose, apart from Him. When we do, the enemy will come in and destroy us and everything we hold dear. Attacking us from all sides, in every area of our lives. Eventually, our time here on earth will come to an end, and we will face judgement. And God will question us, "Did you choose His Son or not? Did you accept the gift He offered or not?" We only get to heaven through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and making Him Lord of our lives. If we do not, we will be cast out. Cast out to a place that was not meant for humans. Its our choice. He will not make us choose Him. He loves us too much to make us choose Him.
The enemy is constantly attacking us. He is constantly trying to sever our relationship with God. He does not want us to choose Jesus. Even if we choose to accept Jesus, the enemy will still attack us from all sides, in every area of our lives, but there is a difference, Jesus is with us. When we choose Him, we don't face those battles alone. We have One who is with us that will strengthen us and encourage us to keep going, to keep fighting. He helps us. But when we ignore Jesus and go our own way, that help is not there, and we are weakened. And we fall victim to the enemy. But with Jesus, we have the victory through Him already, for He already won the battle. He did that for us so we would not be a slave to sin, a slave to Satan. That is what Jesus does for those who choose Him. But you must choose Him. One day, it will be too late to choose.
