Give Willingly

Good morning! Today I am in Mark 12:41-44 and Luke 21:1-4. While Jesus was still in the Temple, He went and sat near the collection box in the Temple. He watched as many rich people came in and put in large amounts of money. Then He saw a poor, widow woman come in and drop in 2 small coins. Jesus called His disciples to Him, and told them that this woman had given more than the other people, because she gave everything she had to live on. And the rich people only gave a small portion of their surplus.

This woman was a widow that did not have many different ways of making money, but she gave all she had to God. She may have only given 2 small coins compared to the large amounts of money the rich people gave, but her donation cost her a lot more. And she gave it willingly. She wasn't forced and she didn't do it grudgingly, but willingly. Letting go of all she had.

God wants us to live with an open hand. Not holding too tightly to what we have whether it be possessions, time, or talents. Not giving because we are told we have to or giving to make ourselves look good, but giving because we want to. Giving because we love and trust God, and want to use what we have to bless and help other people. Give freely, not expecting anything in return. Giving because we know why we have what we do, and who gave it to us to steward. God gives us everything that we have, and He wants us to use it to help others, not just ourselves. When we give willingly, we are showing God we trust Him with everything we have and trust that He will provide everything we need. He is our provider, and He wants us to trust Him with everything we have, just like this woman. Not worrying and stressing, but trusting Him in all areas of our lives.
