Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 22;23-33, Mark 12:18-27, and Luke 20:27-40. After the religious leaders questioned Jesus, some Sadducees came to Jesus to ask Him a question. They asked Him if a man with 7 brothers, married a woman, and he died, the next brother was to marry the widow, so if they were to have children, the children could carry on the family name. This was a law that was written by Moses. If the next man died also, the next brother would marry the widow, and this carried on through all the brothers, until she too eventually died. The Sadducees asked Him whose wife would she be in the resurrection? She told them that their mistake was that they did not know the Scriptures, and they didn't know the power of God. For in the resurrection there would be no marriage, and His people will be like the angels in Heaven. He asks them if they had read in the Scriptures where Moses states that God told Moses, "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (Exodus 3:6)." So He is the God of the living not the dead, for they are all alive to Him. His answer astounded them, and no one dared to ask Him anymore questions.
The Sadducees only believed in the Pentateuch, Genesis-Deuteronomy, and they didn't believe in resurrection because they couldn't find it in the Scriptures. So Jesus answered them with Scripture from Exodus, that they would have known. And tells them that God is the God of the living, not the dead. Instead of focusing on what we think heaven is going to be like, He wants us to focus on our relationship with God. Heaven is not going to be like how we live on earth. It will be completely different. Better than we could ever imagine. We must not think of heaven as an extension of life as we know it now. Our relationships will be different from what we are used to. Instead of focusing on what heaven will be like, focus on God, getting to know Him now while we are still alive. For when we do go to heaven, we will be with Him. We don't have to be afraid of what comes next when we believe and trust in God. Know that there is life after death, and He is the God of the living. Trust Him now, get to know Him now. He wants a relationship with us while we are still alive here on earth. And when this life is over, know that you will be with Him in heaven.
