Good morning! Today I am in Luke 14:7-14. While Jesus is at the dinner, at the Pharisees' house, Jesus noticed that many people were trying to sit in places of honor at the head of the table. Jesus tells them when they are invited to a wedding feast, to find a seat at the foot of the table instead. For if they get a place at the head of the table, if someone more distinguished arrives, they will be asked to move to the foot of the table so the other person could have their seat. And this would embarrass them in front of everyone. But if they find a seat at the foot of the table first, and the host recognizes them, the host might come up to them and give them a place at the head of the table instead. Honoring them in front of everyone. Then Jesus turns to the host of the dinner and tells him to invite people that society deems as unimportant to the dinner instead of their friends, relatives, and rich neighbors. Because those people would invite him back, and that would be his only reward. But if he invites people that don't have the means to repay him, God will reward him.
God does not want us to only think about how we can get ourselves ahead or how we can use other high up people to get ahead. He wants us to use what He has blessed us with to serve others and to help people that need help. We humble ourselves by realizing the gifts and strengths that God has blessed us with and use them as Christ directs. Using them to help others, and point others to Him. It's not about putting ourselves down, but understanding who gave us what we have, and being thankful for everything He has already blessed us with. He wants us to be content with what He has already blessed us with. Not trying to look good for others or wanting what everyone else has, but happy with what we already have. We can bless so many people when we stop striving and stop trying to be something we are not.
You have everything you need through Christ. He takes care of His people. You don't have to worry and you don't have to wear yourself out trying to get ahead. God will take care of you. Spend time with Him. Seek Him and his guidance. He will guide you down the best path for you and the best way to serve others. You are needed.
