Let Doubt Lead You to Answers

Good morning! Today I am in John 20:24-31. When Jesus appeared to the disciples, Thomas was not with them. They told Thomas that the Lord had appeared to them, but he did not believe them. He told them that he wouldn't believe unless he saw Jesus for himself and saw His wounds and placed his hands in them. Eight days later, all the disciples were together, along with Thomas, behind locked doors. And suddenly, Jesus appeared again. He told them, "Peace be with you." Then He told Thomas to look at His hands and put his finger in the wound, and to put his hand into the wound in His side. And told him to not be faithless any longer, but believe. Thomas exclaimed, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing Me." Then John writes that the disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs that he did not write in his book. But the ones he did write were written so that we might continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him we will have life by the power of His name.

Thomas did not believe that Jesus had appeared to the disciples and told them that he wouldn't believe unless he saw Jesus for himself. Many of us are like this, we won't believe unless we see for ourselves. But here is the amazing thing, Jesus knows that. Jesus knows what we need to believe, and He comes to each of us in unique ways that are specifically for us. We may not ever see Jesus in His physical form while we are alive here on earth, like the disciples did, but like He told Thomas, "Blessed are those who believe without seeing." Jesus sends His Holy Spirit to reveal Himself to each of us. That Spirit is present in all His believers. We may not see Jesus, but His Holy Spirit lives within each of us!

Its okay to doubt and have questions. Doubt and questions lead to answers. We just can't allow our doubts and questions to make us bitter and our hearts hard to God. Keep seeking Him when you are doubting and have questions. Get into His Word, and ask God to reveal Himself to you through His Holy Spirit. He will answer you when you seek Him wholeheartedly.
