Love Your Neighbor

Good morning! Today I am in Luke 10:25-37. One day a teacher of religious law asked Jesus what he should do to inherit eternal life? Jesus asked the man what the law of Moses said? The man told Jesus that you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus told him that he was right, to do all those things and he would live. The religious man asked who is neighbor was? Jesus told him a parable about a Jewish man who was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. The man was attacked by bandits. The bandits stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and left him half dead beside the road. A priest walking down the road, saw the man, and crossed to the other side of the road, passing him by. A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but also passed him by. But a despised Samaritan saw him, and had compassion for him. The man soothed his wounds and bandaged them, and put the man on his own donkey, and took him to an inn and took care of him there. The next day, when the man was getting ready to leave, he gave the inn keeper money to keep taking care of the man, and when he came back through, if the inn keeper needed more money, he would give it to him. Jesus asked the man who he thought the neighbor to the wounded man was? The man told Jesus, "the one who showed him mercy." Jesus told the man to go and do the same.

This is how Jesus wants us to treat others. It does not matter how close someone lives to us or what their background is. If we see someone that needs help, he wants us to be like the good Samaritan, and help whoever it is. Many times we can get stuck in our own little bubble not thinking about other people and their needs. Focusing instead on ourselves and our needs, to where we don't notice others around us. Jesus wants us to get our heads out of our own problems so we can see other people's needs, and He will help us know what we can do to help. Allow God to open your eyes to the people around you today. He can show you who needs help and how you can help them. Our time here on earth, is not just about us, but it is about doing what we can to help and serve others. And God gives us everything we need to do so.
