Our Job is to Obey God's Law

Good morning! Today I am in James 4:11-12. James tells us here to not speak evil against each other. If we criticize and judge each other, then we are criticizing and judging God's law. He tells us that our job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to us. For God alone is the one that gave us the law, and He is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So we have no right to judge.

God does not want us judging and criticizing one another, but to show love to each other. Judging and criticizing others, tears them down and could cause them to fall away from God, causing them to stumble into sin. Jesus summarized God's law as love for God and our neighbors (Matthew 22:37-40). And Paul tells us in Romans 13:6-10 that love demonstrated toward a neighbor would fully satisfy God's law. When we fail to love, we are actually breaking God's law, sinning. When we do our job and obey God's law which is to love Him with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and love our neighbors as ourselves, we will want to help them, not hurt them. We will not want to do anything to harm them. Instead, we will want to help them and encourage them as much as we can. That's what God wants for each of us. To love others so much that we will want to help them whenever we can with the abilities and resources that He has given to us. So we must remember, when we are criticizing and judging others, we are breaking God's law, which is a sin. We must examine our hearts and attitudes towards others, making sure we are not doing something to harm someone else. If we notice that we are being judgmental of others, ask God to help you understand why. Usually there is an underlying cause, and once we realize what that underlying cause is, we can start working to heal that area of our lives. God can help us in that area, because He knows it is not easy to love everyone, that's why we need Him. He helps us in the areas of our lives that we struggle with. He can show us how to treat others better. He does that for each of us. Because at some point in our lives, we were all sinners, and He came to us in the middle of our mess and helped us. We are to do that same thing for others. If we see something that we can help someone with, that is our cue that God is calling us to help that person. Step out in obedience and help, and God will help you as well. Seek Him for guidance in every area of your life, and He will guide you.
