4:53 am

Good morning! Today I am in Luke 10:17-24. The disciples returned to Jesus excited about everything that had happened on their journey. They told Jesus that even the demons obeyed them when they used His name. Jesus told them yes, and that He saw Satan fall from heaven like lightening. He tells them that He has given them authority over all the power of the enemy, and they can walk among snakes and scorpions and not be hurt. But He tells them not to rejoice that evil spirits obey them, instead they should rejoice that their names are registered in heaven. Then Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and He thanked the Father for hiding these things from people who think they are wise and clever, but revealing them to the childlike. He tells them that His Father has entrusted everything to Him and no one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Then He tells His disciples that they were truly blessed because of what they had seen and heard, that many of the prophets and kings longed to see and hear what they had, but they never did.

The disciples were so excited and rejoicing, and Jesus was thrilled too, but He warned them not to rejoice because of demons obeying them, but to rejoice in what was the most important thing for them, that their names were registered in heaven. By Jesus telling them about Satan falling from heaven, He was warning them against pride. It was not by their own might that they did these things, but by the power that Jesus had given them.

Jesus is the one that gives us the power. Through Him, He gives us the power to cast out demons, to heal the sick, and to lead people to Him. Leading people to Him is the most important thing we can do. Our names registered in God's Kingdom is the most important thing of all because that is where we will spend eternity. But God is the one that offers us that gift. And Jesus is the one that reveals God to us. If you are a follower of God, it is because Jesus chose to reveal God to you. We don't come to Him on our own, He calls us to Him. Knowing that helps us not focus on ourselves, but helps us keep God as a priority in our lives, putting Him first in all things. We can do nothing without Him. With that, He blesses us with the power in His name to help others.

As you go out to help, always remember that it is by God's power, not your own, and make sure other people know that as well. Always pointing others to God. Boosting in His strength, not your own. Because it is not about us, it's about God.
