Search for Jesus in the Midst of your Struggle

Good morning! Today I am in Mark 16:12-13 and Luke 13-35. On the same day that Peter and John went to the tomb to find it empty, there were two followers of Jesus walking to the village of Emmaus. As they were walking, they were talking about everything that had happened, and Jesus appeared to them in a different form, but they did not recognize Him because God kept them from recognizing Him. Jesus asked them what they were discussing so intently as they walked. They stopped and told Him that He must be the only person in Jerusalem that hasn't heard about the things that happened there the last couple of days. Jesus asked them, "what things?" They told Him about Jesus and what the religious leaders did, and how they hoped that Jesus was the Messiah that had come to rescue Israel. And how the women had talked to angels and told them that His tomb was empty because Jesus was alive. Jesus told them, "You foolish people! You find it hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures." Telling them that it was clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before He entered His glory. Then He took them through all the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from the Scriptures everything concerning Himself. They were getting close to Emmaus and they begged Jesus to stay with them that night sense it was getting late. Jesus went with them, and as they sat down to eat, He took the bread and blessed it. Then He broke it and gave it to them, and suddenly their eyes were opened and they recognized Him. And at that moment, He disappeared. Then they said to each other that while Jesus was explaining the Scriptures to them, their hearts were burning within them. And within an hour they headed back to Jerusalem where they found the 11 disciples. They told the disciples everything, and how they didn't recognize Him until He broke the bread.

These two men were so wrapped up in disappointment of what had happened to Jesus, that they did not recognize Him when He came up to them. Just like Mary Magdalene before, their grief blinded them to Jesus and they were even going in the wrong direction. But Jesus turned them to Scripture and explained to them how everything happened just as predicted. Which put them back on the right path to Jerusalem.

We can be so disappointed with what is happening in our lives that we miss Jesus. We forget to turn to Him and seek His guidance. Or we begin thinking that He is not with us and can't help us. But Like Jesus pointed them back to Scripture, we too can turn back to Scripture to put us back on track. We must remember that no matter what happens to us, or what our circumstances look like, God is still there and He is still in control. We can turn to Scripture to see how God is moving in our situations and how He can help us in those moments. Just because things don't turn out how we have planned, we can still have hope and trust that everything will work out in the end. And when we do turn to the Scriptures and seek His guidance, He will reveal Himself to us. Showing us that He has never left us. Seek Him in the midst of your trials, and know that no matter what happens, He is there for you.
