Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 25:1-13. Jesus tells the disciples another parable to demonstrate what the Kingdom of Heaven will be like when Jesus returns. He said it will be like 10 bridesmaids that are waiting for the bridegroom to come. Five of the bridesmaids were wise because they had brought extra oil and the other five were foolish because they didn't take enough. As they were waiting for the bridegroom, he was delayed, and the bridesmaids fell asleep. They were awakened by someone telling them that the bridegroom was coming. So they got up and got their lamps ready, but the 5 that did not have enough oil asked the others if they could have some. But the others told them no because they did not have enough for everyone, and they told those who had run out of oil to run to the shop and get some. As they were out buying more oil, the bridegroom arrived, and took the 5 with plenty of oil into the wedding feast. When the other five came back, the door to the feast was locked, and they cried out for the bridegroom to let them in, but he answered back that he didn't know them. Jesus tells His disciples that they too must keep watch and be ready for they do not know the day or the hour of His return.
Just like the 10 bridesmaids were supposed to be ready for the bridegroom to come, we are supposed to be ready for when Jesus returns. We prepare for His return by spending time with Him in His Word and prayer. Just like the bridesmaids were responsible for their own oil, we each are responsible for our own relationship with God. If we are not ready when He returns, just like the bridegroom, He will tell us He never knew us because we did not take the time to get to know Him. Preparing ourselves to spend eternity with Him. We must stay ready at all times because we do not know when He will return. But we don't have to worry. When we take the time to get to know Him, and put our faith and hope in Him, He will make us a part of His Kingdom. And if we are still alive, we still have a chance to get ready. We must not believe we have all the time in the world, because we don't. This life can end for us at any moment. We must stay prepared for His return.
