The Curtain was Torn

Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 27th:45-56, Mark 15:33-41, Luke 23:44-49, and John 19:28-37. At noon, the whole land fell into darkness until about 3 pm. And Jesus cried out, "Eli, Eli, lema abachthani?", meaning , "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?" Some people near by thought He was calling out for the prophet Elijah to rescue Him. Jesus knew His mission was finished and He said, "I am thirsty." Fulfilling Scripture from Psalms 22 and 69. And one of the people got a hyssop branch, and put a sponge filled with sour wine, to give Him a drink. But some of the people told the person to wait to see if Elijah came to rescue Him. Then Jesus cried out again "Father, I entrust My Spirit into Your hands! It is finished!", and released His spirit. Breathing His last breath. At that moment the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. And many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead. They left the cemetery after Jesus' resurrection, went into the holy city, and appeared to many people. This was the day of preparation and the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was a Sabbath day as well as the Passover. So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering their legs be broken, then their bodies could be taken down. They went and broke the legs of the 2 other men, but when they got to Jesus, He was already dead, so they didn't break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear checking, and immediately blood and water flowed out. This happened to fulfill Scriptures that say, "Not one of His bones will be broken (Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12, Psalm 34:20)", and "They will look on the one they pierced (Zechariah 12:10)". When the Roman officer overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said, "Surely this man was innocent." And all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what happened, they went home in deep sorrow. Many women who had come from Galilee with Jesus to care for Him were watching from a distance. Some of the women were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and Salome.

All these things happened, just as the Lord had planned from the beginning of time. We can see that by how Jesus' death fulfilled many Scriptures that the prophets from the past had predicted years ago. All this happening on the day of preparation for the Passover is very significant. What Jesus had done on that day, made it to where all of us today don't have to follow all the rituals the Lord had given His people over in Exodus because Jesus' body took the place of the sacrificial lamb that day. His body was sacrificed for all of us so now we can come straight to the Father Himself. When Jesus breathed His last breath, the curtain in the Temple tore, opening up the most Holy Place that only High Priests could go into, and that was only once a year. The High Priest was the mediator between God and the people. But now, Jesus is our High Priest. Now we can come to God because of Jesus. Just like the blood of the lamb, during the Passover in Exodus, was placed on the door frame of the homes of God's people to protect them from the angel of death, Jesus' blood covers the lives of all those who choose to believe in Him.

When the soldiers pierced His side, blood and then water poured out. Jesus' blood was poured out for everyone of us, to save us from the penalty of sin. With His perfect life and body, He paid the price for every one of us. And when we choose to believe that, He washes white as snow. Cleansing us, so we can stand before the Lord, our God, without fear. Jesus did that for everyone of us that day. It is so important to remember what Jesus did for us. Never forgetting. And sharing with others what He did for us. This is the gospel. This is the Good News that Jesus died for. And it is for everyone, not just a select few. That is how much He loves you.
