The Great Commission

Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 28:16-20 and Mark 16:15-18. The eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some of them doubted. Jesus told His disciples that He had been given all the authority over heaven and earth. And now they are to go out and make disciples out of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Preaching the Good News to everyone. And that anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But everyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. Teaching all new disciples to obey all the commands He had given them. He tells them that miraculous signs would accompany all who believe. All who believe will be able to cast out demons in His name. They would be able to speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety. If they drink anything poisonous, it won't harm them. They would be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed. And telling them that He was would be with them always, even to the end of the age.

This commission is for everyone of us. Just like Jesus told His disciples here, If we believe in Him, we are saved and we are to obey all the commands He has given, including going out into all the world and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. He died for every one of us so we could have life with Him in heaven after we die in this world. And as we go He will be with us always and He will give us the boldness and courage that we need to share that Good News. We are not just to sit around and keep that information to ourselves. We are to share the love of Christ with others.

He even gives us the power to do miraculous signs. These signs are to be used to help others, not as a magic act. We should take these gifts very seriously and use them when the Lord prompts us through His Holy Spirit. These gifts are for everyone of us that believe and receive Him as our Lord and Savior. These gifts help us show God's love for others.

And He gives us the promise that He is with us wherever we go, even to the ends of the age. That is the best promise of all, that we are not alone and we don't have to struggle in this world by ourselves. God does not call us to go out and share His love without Him. He is with every believer through His Holy Spirit. His Holy Spirit dwells within every believer and He is there to guide us.

Trust God today. And know that He loves you and is with you always. Spend time with Him in His Word, and allow Him to reveal Himself to you.
