The World's Hatred

Good morning! Today I am in John 15:18-16:4. Jesus tells them that if the world hates them, to remember that it hated Him first. The world would love them if they were of it, but because they belong to Him and they are no longer part of the world, it hates them. He tells them that He called them out of the world. And reminds them that a slave is not greater than the master, so since the world is persecuting Him, they would also be persecuted. If the world had listened to Him, it would listen to them. But the world has rejected the Father that sent Him. The world would not have been guilty if He hadn't come and spoke to them, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates Him hates His Father. If He hadn't done so many miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But they saw everything He did, and they still hate Him and His Father. Fulfilling what Psalm 35:19 and 69:4 said, "They hated me without cause." He tells them that He is going to send them the Advocate. He will come to them from the Father and will testify all about Him. And they must also testify about Him because they had been with Him from the beginning of His ministry. He tells them that He has told them these things so they would not abandon their faith. Because they would be expelled from the synagogues, and a time is coming when those who kill them will think they are doing a holy service for God. And this is because they never knew Him or His Father. He tells them these things so they would remember His warning when these things happen to them.

The world hates Jesus because He exposed their sins. And they persecuted Him because of it. Jesus warned His disciples that they would face the same persecution because they belonged to Him. But reassures them that He was going to send them the Holy Spirit to help them. They would not be alone when they faced persecution for Him. This same warning and assurance is for us today. We too will face persecution for our faith in Jesus at some point. Jesus told us earlier that He did not come to bring peace on earth, but division between believers and unbelievers (Luke 12:51-53). The world hates Jesus when He walked the earth, and it still hates Jesus today. And because we are His followers, it will hate us, because this world belongs to Satan, for now, and is ruled by him. But one day, the Lord will come back and take His people home. We don't have to be afraid because God will be with us every step of the way. Giving us the Holy Spirit to encourage us, to strengthen us, and to teach us. We can walk in faith through whatever we face because Jesus has already won the battle for everyone of us. We just have to accept Jesus and who He was, and what He did for us. Turning from our sins, and walking with Him. Don't allow this world to discourage you. Remember that God is with you.
