Good morning! Today I am in Luke 9:52-56. As they were heading to Jerusalem, Jesus sent some of His messengers to a Samaritan village to prepare for His arrival. But the people in the village did not welcome Jesus because He was on His way to Jerusalem. James and John asked Jesus, "Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up?". But Jesus rebuked them, and they headed to another village.
James and John didn't want to just shake the dust from there feet because the town rejected them, like Jesus told them to do in Luke 9:5. They wanted to retaliate. When people reject us or do something mean to us, we want to retaliate. But Jesus does not want that. We must remember that judgment belongs to God, and we must not expect Him to use His power to carry out personal vendettas. Instead, like He told us in Luke 9, shake the dust from your feet and head to the next place.
Not everyone is going to understand or accept what we are doing. People may react harshly to the Good News, but we must not let that stop us from sharing God with others. We may just have to change direction. God sees all and knows exactly what people do to us, and He wants us to leave judgement up to Him. Instead, we are to pray for the person or people, and move on. He will take care of whatever the situation is. Pray and allow God to fill you with peace over whatever the situation is today.
