Good morning! Today I am in Luke 12:54-59. Jesus turns to the crowd and tells them that they know how to interpret the signs of the weather, but they don't know how to interpret the signs of the times that they were in. Then He tells them, that if they are on their way to court with their accuser, they should try to settle the matter before they get there, otherwise their accuser may drag them in front of a judge, and the judge will hand them over to an officer that will throw them in prison. Then they won't be free again until they had paid their full debt.
The crowd was missing the reason why Jesus was there. They were listening to the Pharisees and religious teachers that thought they knew everything about God, but they did not believe Jesus. Even though everything Jesus was doing lined up with the Scriptures they had studied all their lives. Just like there are signs of bad weather coming, everything Jesus was doing was showing the people that God's Kingdom was coming. God's Kingdom coming was more important for them than the weather, but they were missing the signs.
Jesus wants us to be ready when the Lord calls us home. We get ready by spending time with Him, studying His Word, and walking in obedience to Him. So when our time comes to an end, we will be ready. Just like He tells the people to settle whatever matter they have with their accuser before going to court, we must decide for ourselves what we believe and who we will follow, Jesus or the enemy. God is the ultimate judge, and Satan is our accuser. Satan is constantly trying to get us to fall away from God and follow His ways. When we die, we will stand before God, and the accuser, Satan, will try to accuse us of all the wrong things we have done (Revelation 12:10). But if we believe in Jesus, now while there is still time, Jesus will stand as our intercessor (Hebrews 7:25). He covers us with His blood He shed for us on the cross. He saves us from eternal damnation. But we must choose before we stand before God. We must decide while we are still alive who we are going to believe and follow. If you are alive, you still have time to choose God. Choose Him today. We do not know when our time will come to an end, we are not promised tomorrow. But Jesus promises us that if we choose to believe Him and follow Him, we will be with Him for eternity. Choose Him today.
