We Have An Advocate

Good morning! Today I am in John 14:15-31. Jesus tells His disciples that if they love Him then obey His commandments, and He will go to the Father and ask Him to give them another Advocate who would never leave them. This Advocate is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads into all truth, but the world cannot receive Him because it isn't looking for Him and doesn't recognize Him. But they know Him because He lives with them and would later be in them. He tells them that He will not abandon them like orphans, but that He would come to them. Soon the world would no longer see Him, but they will see Him. Since He lives, they will also live. And when He is raised to life again, they will know that He is in His Father, and they are in Him, and He is in them. He tells them that those who accept His commandments and obey them are the ones that love Him. And because they love Him, His Father would love them. And He would love them and reveal Himself to each of them. Then the other disciple that was named Judas, asked Him why He was going to reveal Himself to them and not the world at large? Jesus tells them that all who love Him will do what He says, and His Father would love them, and they would come and make their home with each of them. And anyone who doesn't love Him will not obey Him. He reminds them that His words are not His own, but they come from His Father that sent Him. And He is telling them these things while He still has time with them. But when the Father sends the Advocate as His representative, the Holy Spirit, He will teach them everything and will remind them of everything He has told them. He tells them that He is leaving them with the gift of peace of mind and hearts. And the peace He gives is not a gift that the world can give. So He tells them not to be troubled or afraid. He is going away but He will come back to them. And if they really loved Him, they would be happy that He is going to the Father, who is greater than Him. He tells them these things so that when they happen they will believe. He finishes by telling them that He doesn't have much more time to talk to them because the ruler of the world approaches. He tells them that the ruler of this world has no power over Him, but He will do what the Father requires of Him, so that the world will know that He loves the Father.

Jesus tells His disciples that He is about to leave them, but to not be afraid because He will come back to them, and His Father would send them an Advocate that would be with them forever. This is a promise for all of us who believe in Jesus. This Advocate, the Holy Spirit, is sent to all of us who believe. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God that He sends to live within us. The Holy Spirit does many different things for us. He teaches us. He reminds us of Jesus' Words. He convicts us of sin. He shows us God's righteousness. He announces God's judgment on evil. He guides us into truth and gives us insight into future events. He brings glory to Christ.

He has been active among people from the beginning of time, but after Jesus rose from the grave, and ascended to heaven, God sent the Holy Spirit to live inside His people. Now we have Him inside us guiding us and helping us through this life. We, like the disciples, don't have to be afraid or troubled because God is with us and in us to help us. And He alone gives us peace. And we will know who loves Christ by their actions. If we love Christ, we will obey His commandments that He gave us.

Such a beautiful promise for each of us. To know that God sent His Spirit to us to help us, is awesome. God is so good! The more we spend time in His Word, the more the Holy Spirit shows us. Revealing more and more of the Father to us. As well as, changing us from the inside out, to be more like Him. We don't have to do this world alone, God is with us and wants to help us. Lean on Him when times get hard, and know that He will never leave you.
