We Have Important Jobs to Do

4:43 am

Good morning! Today I am in Mark 16:19-20, Luke 24:50-53, and Acts 1:6-11. Jesus led His disciples to Bethany. While they were together, the disciples kept asking Jesus when the time was coming for Him to free Israel and restore His Kingdom? Jesus told them that the Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for them to know. But that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them. And they will be His witnesses, telling people everywhere about Him, to the ends of the earth. He then lifted His hands and blessed them, and as He was blessing them He was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could not longer see Him. And He was seated in the place of honor at God's right hand. As they were standing there trying to see, two angels clothed in white robes, suddenly appeared. They asked the men why they were standing there staring into heaven? Telling them that Jesus had been taken from them into heaven, but some day He will return from heaven in the same way they saw Him go. They worshiped Jesus and then returned to Jerusalem, just as Jesus had told them to, filled with great joy. And they spent all of their time in the Temple praising God.

They saw Jesus get taken up to heaven on a cloud, and as they were standing there astonished, the angels reassured them that one day He will be back. But until then, they were to be His witnesses to the world. Sharing the Good News of His salvation to everyone, all over the world. As His believers, we have this same mission. This is our job. God calls us to be His disciples, sharing His love with the world around us. He has given us different gift and abilities to share His love. And we are to use those as He directs us. Just as Jesus told His disciples here and other times in the gospels, that it is not for us to know when He will come back, but it is our job to be ready and help other people be ready for His return. Just like the angels asked them why they were just standing there looking up into heaven, we are not to just stand around waiting on His return, but we are to be actively seeking Him and His will in our lives, and actively sharing His love. That is our jobs to do. Every day we should be living for God. Just as Jesus was a servant to the people here on earth, we are to be His servants while we are alive. Don't ever think that you don't have anything to offer. God can use you where ever you are. Seek Him and allow Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and give you direction. He wants you to be part of His Kingdom. Seek Him today and allow Him to guide you.
