Good morning! Today I am in Luke 12:22-34. Jesus tells His disciples to not worry about everyday life - whether they have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear, for life is more than that. He tells them to look at the ravens, they don't plant or harvest or store food in barns because God feeds them. And they are far more valuable than to Him than any birds. He tells them all their worries cannot add a single day to their lives, so there is no use in worrying about bigger things. He tells them to look at the lilies and how they grow. They don't make their clothing, but they are dressed more beautifully than even king Solomon was. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers, that are here today and gone tomorrow, He will certainly care for them. He tells them to not be concerned about what to eat and drink, these things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but their heavenly Father already knows their needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He would give them everything they needed. It gives their heavenly Father great happiness to give them the Kingdom. He tells them to sell their possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for them in heaven, there their treasure will be safe. Wherever their treasure is, there the desires of their hearts will be.
I love this! God doesn't want us to worry about the things of this life, but instead to trust Him. Trust Him that He will give us all that we need just like He cares for the birds and the lilies. He created those things beautifully and with everything they need, just like He created us. He gives us everything we need in this life, including the gifts and abilities to serve Him and His people here on earth. Seek Him first, and He directs our steps and provides what we need. Don't fall into the trap of worrying about every little thing. Focus on God instead and trust that He has got everything under control.
The world wants us to think that we have to provide for ourselves, in our own strength, but God does not tell us that. God wants us to have faith, and lean on Him. We can do nothing without Him. If we try to live off our own strengths, we will stay tired, anxious, and stressed out, and possibly angry at the world. But with God, He takes care of everything. That does not mean that we must stop working our jobs and just start sitting around the house. No, God calls us to use our abilities to serve those around us, working for Him. When we work for Him, He takes care of us. But we must put Him first in all things. He will help us with that.
