Good morning! Today I am in Galatians 5:16-26. Paul tells us to let the Holy Spirit guide our lives, then we won't be doing what our sinful natures crave. For the sinful nature wants to do evil, which is opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. He tells us these to forces are constantly fighting each other, so we are not free to carry out our own good intentions. But when we are directed by the Holy Spirit, we are not under the obligation of the Law of Moses. He tells us that the results are very clear when we follow the desires of our sinful natures. The results are sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. He tells us that anyone living this sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things. He tells us that those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful natures to His cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

This is one of my favorite sections of the Bible. Paul tells us plainly here the types of actions we produce when we are not being led by the Holy Spirit. These things are evil desires that live within everyone of us, but he gives us hope. Yes, all these things live in us, but by the power of Jesus in our lives, we can overcome them and not fall victim to them anymore. Jesus is there to help us. The more we seek Him and make Him a part of our lives the more power He gives us through His Holy Spirit to not fall victim to these temptations and desires. I love that he gives us a list of things that are evil because we can look at them and examine ourselves with them. That does not mean we should be hard on ourselves, but we can ask God for help in those areas we may be struggling in. These are not things we can fix on our own, we need Jesus' help. We need Jesus to tell us what is good and what is sinful because the prince of this world is the enemy, and he likes to make us think that there is nothing wrong with sinful things. We need God to reveal to us what is sinful, and He does that through the Holy Spirit in our lives. When He reveals those sinful things in our lives, we can start working on changing those things. But it is all through God that we can. We need His help. Because just like Paul states, our sinful natures want to do evil. We need God to help us. When He reveals those sinful things to you, repent and turn from those sinful things, and ask God for help and forgiveness. He will hear you, and He will help you if you truly want the help. The more we seek Him for help, the more He will bless us with the good fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. All these things only come from God, and they are things we all want in our lives. But we must give up our sinful desires, and allow God to help us. That is something we must do daily, and it is not easy, but God is there to help us. You don't have to do it on your own, seek Him and He will help you.
