Good morning! This morning I am in Luke 1:57-66, John the Baptist was born. Elizabeth and Zechariah were very old when the angel appeared to them, telling them that the Lord was going to bless them with a baby boy and they were to name him John. When the angel told that to Zechariah, Zechariah did not believe him because of their age. So the angel told him because of his unbelief he would not be able to speak until the baby was born. After the baby was born, and they had the circumcision ceremony, that was common back then, Elizabeth named the baby John. The people did not understand why she would choose that name when there was no one in the family with that name, so they asked Zechariah. Zechariah could not speak so he wrote on a stone tablet saying his name would be John. As soon as he did that, he was able to speak. Once he was able to speak, he began praising the Lord. And everyone began wondering what the child would turn out to be because they could see that the hand of the Lord was on him.
I love this! This makes me so excited because it just shows how the Lord works in our lives. How He sees us where we are and hears us! The Lord heard the prayers of Zechariah and Elizabeth. He heard their prayers for wanting a child. And even though they were very old, He answered them. He answered them because they were obedient to Him. The Lord said in Luke 1:6 that they were righteous because they were careful to obey all of His commandments and regulations. When we are obedient to the Lord and what He tells us to do He sees, and He blesses us for our obedience. That does not mean that what He tells us to do will be easy, but that when we follow Him with our whole hearts, He will bless us.
Obedience looks different for all of us, and it looks different in the different seasons we go through. Today my obedience looks like spending time with Him, starting a blog, going to church, going to a prayer group that is happening later today, and spending time with the family that He has blessed me with. So, what does your obedience to God look like today? What has God called you to do? I can promise you that God has called you to be obedient to Him in some way. If you are not sure what that may be, I suggest starting at the basics, the Lord's commandments. Jesus tells us that the greatest commandment of all is to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, our souls, and our minds, that is in Matthew 22:37. That looks like making time for Him, putting Him first in our lives. Now, that does not have to be first thing in the morning, but anytime. Because our days look different for everyone of us. When you do He will meet you right where you are at. Once you start meeting with Him daily in His Word, He will start directing your steps. He will start showing you things. He will start changing your life even when you don't realize it. You will start becoming a new person in Christ. He is so good. He will show you what He wants you to do, if you ask Him. He is such a good God.
If God is speaking to you today, I would love to know. Leave a comment. I would love to pray for you if you are needing prayer today, also. Remember that God loves you and He as a special plan and purpose for you, just like He had a special plan for Zechariah and Elizabeth. We are never to old for God to use us. He wants to use us to bless the world around Him. You are special to God. God bless you, and I will talk to you again tomorrow.
