Good evening! Right now, I am currently in the middle of cooking supper and washing some laundry. That is usually what I am doing around this time everyday during the week. My days during the weeks usually look like: getting up at 4 am, showering, reading my Bible, and getting to work by 6 am. Then when I get home it is straight to starting laundry and starting supper. I usually fold some laundry while cooking supper, and today, I'm working on this blog, since I didn't get to it this morning. It seems like a never ending cycle. I have been going to Wednesday night Bible study at a church in town, which starting this week, is going to be on Tuesdays. On the days I got Bible Study though, I don't cook, we usually have leftovers or something. Then if I have any time in between all the other stuff, I might actually get to work on an art project I might be working on, but there are times I just chill.
Speaking of art projects, since this is a blog about God and art, projects I am currently working on are 2 baby quilts. It has been a while since I have quilted, but I do enjoy it. Originally, it was going to be two paintings, but God had a different plan. As I was planning out the painting, the idea of making them quilts popped into my mind. But as we tend to do, or maybe its just me, I tend to question. "Father, I don't know about that. I don't know if I will have the time to do it, or have them done quickly enough." But the thought stayed with me for several days, even the vision of what they would look like. Then, a few days later, after talking to a few friends, things they said confirmed in my spirit that yes that is what the Lord is telling me to do. As well as some Christian podcasts I listen to confirmed the thought. I have found when the Lord is directing me to do something, and I question the thoughts, the Lord will send people that will speak into what I was thinking without me even telling anyone the thoughts I was having. Or I will listen to a podcast that will confirm exactly what I am thinking.
I work in an office, and while I work I listen to the Klove radio station, Christian YouTube videos, Christian podcasts, and the news. The Lord will use everyone of those things to speak to me. He can use anything or anyone He wants to, to speak to us. I have learned that if you are wanting to hear Him, you have to spend time with Him. You have to spend time in His Word so you can understand for yourself how He speaks to you personally. He speaks to everyone in different ways. Once you start spending time with Him, He will begin directing your steps. If you are someone who struggles finding time to get into God's Word everyday, try listening to Christian podcast, Christian YouTube videos, Christian radio stations, even Bible apps that you can download on your phone. All these things God has created through His people. They can help you. They have tremendously helped me when I first started my walk with God, and still do. Immersing yourself in His Word through the different avenues that He has created will help you grow closer to God. And I do mean "He created" because He is the one that gives us the ideas to do things for Him. Every person that has stepped out in faith to do a video, write a song, paint a picture or whatever it may be, pointing to Him is an idea that started with God. He is the one who calls us to Him. He calls us to follow Him. So when you do things for Him, He is the one that has given you that idea, and He will use whatever He wants to confirm that to you.
This morning in my Bible study I was in Luke 1:67-80. Zechariah had just gotten his voice back after the birth of his son. When he got his voice back, he started prophesying over his son, John. He began by praising God for what He had done for him and the Lord's people. Thanking the Lord for sending a Savior to redeem His people. Saving them from their enemies so they could serve God without fear, in holiness and righteousness as long as they lived. This Savior would be a light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and would guide them to the path of peace. Then verse 80 tells us that John grew up and became strong in spirit and lived in the wilderness until he began his public ministry to Israel.
I don't know about you, but it is so encouraging to me. This prophecy was pointing to the Messiah that was to come. The one the angel told Zechariah in Luke 1:17 that John would be preparing the people for. This Messiah, Jesus Christ, is doing the same thing for us today. He has redeemed us. Through His death, He conquered over the enemy. He has conquered the enemy so we can serve the Lord without fear, in holiness and righteousness. He is a light for us in the darkness. He is giving us the strength to get through the valley of the shadow of death. He is the one that guides us to the path of peace. It is through Him and His Word that we can make it through this life.
Like Zechariah, we should praise the Lord for all that He has done for us in the past, and for what He is continuing to do for us. The Lord is so good to everyone of us. If you are still alive today, He has a purpose for your life. He is not done with you. Seek Him, and you will find Him. Seek Him in every area of your life. He will guide you. He wants to show you the best path for your life. The plans He has for your life involve the very gifts and talents He has gifted you with. Those gifts and talents He wants to use through you, to show people around you His goodness and mercy. He can still use you.
How is God speaking to you today? Is He wanting to use something that you can do to help someone you know? If you are not sure, spend a little time with Him. Ask Him. And be ready for Him to answer you.
