Good morning! This morning, I am still in John the Baptist's life. Looking at the message that he gave to the people of that time, that is for us as well. He really shocked the people by the things he said, not just by what he did. The people there asked him what they needed to do to prepare for Jesus. He told them that they had to have their own personal relationship with the Lord, and follow through with their actions.
The people of that time would claim that they were descendants of Abraham, so that made them right with God. But John told them that would not cut it, that they had to know God for themselves. We today have to have our own relationship with the Lord as well. You may have had grandparents or parents that had a great relationship with the Lord, and always prayed for you. But that does not give you your own relationship. They were a model for you. We must seek the Lord for ourselves. He wants us to come to Him and build that relationship. We can't rely on our family to do that for us. Building that relationship takes time. We have to truly seek Him with our whole heart, not just saying that we do.
When we do start spending time with Him and seeking Him, we then must follow through with our actions. John tells us that we should: share what we have with those who need it; to do whatever our jobs are well and with fairness; and to be content with our earnings. All these things can be hard to do sometimes, but with God we can. He shows us what to do and how to do it and who to give to when they need it. He also is our provider, so we don't have to worry about tomorrow because He already has it worked out. Spend time with Him everyday so He can show you what He wants you to do for that day. And do the best that you can for Him, and He will bless you. Yes, there will still be struggles in the day, but God will give you the strength to carry you.
Do you have your own relationship with the Lord, or are you relying on your family? At the beginning, we are all relying on our families. They are the ones that show us how to have that relationship with Him, but we have to use that as an example, and build our own relationship with God from there. If you don't have a good example, find a good God-fearing, Bible teaching church. There will be plenty of examples there. But it is very important for us to build our own relationship. Don't rely on others for that. God wants that with you.
