Good afternoon! Today I was in John 1:29-34. Here John the Baptist is testifying that Jesus is the Messiah. John tells us that at first he did not recognize Him, but the Lord told him that he would know who the Messiah was by the sign of the Holy Spirit descending and resting on Him. He tells us that the Lord was the one who told him to baptize with water so that the Messiah might be revealed to Israel.

I find it interesting that he tells us that the Lord told him to baptize with water so that the Messiah might be revealed. God is the one that called John to do what he was doing, baptizing for God. John was obedient and did what the Lord told him to. God is the one that also calls us to Him (Isaiah 45:3), to do different things for Him, whatever that looks like for you. But the people had to be baptized in water so they could see Jesus for who He was. They had to be cleansed of their sins. They had to ask God for forgiveness. Our sins blind us to God (Acts 26:18). They blind us to how God is working in and around us.

Do you ever feel like God is not speaking to you or that you don't see God working in your life? When we are stuck in sin, whatever sin that may be, we can't see God or hear Him clearly. Only when we repent and turn from our sin, and seek Him with our whole hearts, will we begin to see and hear Him more clearly. But we must repent and ask Him to forgive us and cleanse our hearts. This is an act of obedience.

Even if you don't see God working around you, He is. God is in every little detail of our lives, every single day. He is there and He wants to spend time with you. Ask Him to show you any sin that might be separating you, and ask Him to help you let go of it. He will if you truly want that.
