Temptations

4:38 am

Good morning! This morning I was in Matthew 4:1-11. This is right after Jesus gets baptized, and the Holy Spirit leads Him into the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights to fast. In this time, the devil comes to tempt Him. He tempts Jesus with food, power, and possessions. Each time the devil tempted Him, Jesus responded back with Scripture. In the temptations, the devil also used Scripture to persuade Jesus to sin. But ultimately, Jesus overcame the devil's temptations.

If you notice, the devil studied Jesus. He knew exactly what would tempt Jesus into sinning the most at that time. The devil studies us too. The devil is constantly watching us and learning what motivates us, what makes us happy. He knows exactly what to do and say, at the right time, to tempt us into sinning. The enemy will attack us when we are at our most vulnerable times. Like Jesus, we must equip ourselves with God's Word so when the enemy does come to tempt us, we have exactly what we need to not fall. God's Word equips us to fight those temptations. The more we spend time with God, in His Word, and in prayer, the more He will give us the strength to overcome any temptation that the enemy will throw at us.

What tempts you to sin the most? And when are you at your most vulnerable times? This is a really good question for us to reflect on, because when we know what is a stumbling block for us, we can learn how to combat the enemy in that time. If you are not sure what it may be, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you, and He will. You do not have to fight that battle alone, the Lord will equip you to fight that battle.
