Good morning! I hope you had a good day yesterday. Mine was good, got a lot of stuff done yesterday around the house that I didn't get to Friday, which makes me super happy.
This morning, I was in Matthew 3:13-17. John is still at the Jordan River baptizing people, when Jesus walks up and asks John to baptize Him. John immediately felt unworthy to baptize Him, instead telling Jesus that He should be the one baptizing him. But Jesus responded to John saying, "It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires." John agreed and baptized Him. As soon as he did, the heavens opened up and they saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on Him, and a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, who brings me great joy."
Wow, God is so good. I love how He shows up to His people all through the Bible and still today. He is such a loving god! He loves us so much He sent His One and Only Son to us to save us. He shows up for us all the time. I love that.
Jesus didn't have to get baptized, He was sinless. But He knew why He came to earth, and the main reason was to save us by being the ultimate sacrifice. He was baptized for that, but also because it was in obedience to His Father. The Father requires all who believe in Him to be baptized, we see it in the Old Testament as well as the New. We do it still today, because it is in obedience to God and His call on each of our lives. Jesus being baptized also showed support for what John was doing, as well as, starts His public ministry. He was also showing the people that He was not like the Pharisees that were only watching and criticizing. Jesus did all those things with this one action. When He does, then we see the Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, all at once. Amazing! How amazing would it have been to be able to be there when this happened. He did this in a crowd of people. I am curious to know how many people were there, including the Pharisees. I would think that after seeing this, they would all be believing and following Jesus from then forward, I believe I would. Especially back then for they were all waiting for the same thing, the Messiah to return. And there He was right in front of them with confirmation of the Father speaking directly to them! Wow, how could you not believe after that. It makes me excited just sitting here typing this. God is so good and so amazing!
Here is the question though, if you were there at that time, would you believe after seeing that? I want to say yes, that I would immediately believe, but God shows up for us to day in amazing miracles but we brush them off, not thinking anything about God, maybe thinking that it was just good luck, but it's not luck, it's God. I don't believe in luck anymore. Before I was a believer, I did. I will be honest with you and tell you I believed in luck, I believed in fortunes and horoscopes. I believed in all that stuff. But today, and for a long time now, God has shown me otherwise. God has shown me it was not all those other things, but Him. It was Him all a long, only Him, and Him now.
The world wants to tell you that it's all those other things. Those things pull us away from God. They cause us to put our faith and trust in something that is not real, or not of God. For His Word tells us that fortune tellers and witchcraft are not of Him (Leviticus 19:26; Jeremiah 29:8-9). I wanted to give you these scriptures because these things are very prevalant today, and are so easy to fall into. We have to be aware of these things and have to know what God tells us about them, so we can protect ourselves and others from them.
But all the good things that happen to you, are because of God. God loves you and wants to bless you. He is the only one that gives us exactly what we need, when we need it. He sees you, and He sees when you are being obedient to Him. Trust Him alone today. If you have not been baptized yet, I encourage you to do so. If Jesus thought it was important to do, then we too should follow in obedience. Allow God to lead you today, not this world. Put your trust in Him alone, and He will bless you.
